US Veterans, servicemen and women, and hearing loss is a massively underestimated problem. Three million Veterans are receiving disability compensation for Hearing Related issues. Veterans are 30% more likely to suffer from hearing loss than other civilians. This is due to helicopters, equipment, guns, bombs, and other noise pollution like machinery, tools and, tanks. Veterans can suffer from tinnitus (ringing of the ears), Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), and hearing loss as a result of noise pollutants, chemicals, infections, and age. Hearing loss is typically gradual over time, but hearing loss can be and is usually preventable! Tinnitus and hearing loss can be life-altering and can cause depression, isolation, anxiety, and more. Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, who are people who have served in the United States Armed Forces (that were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable). In many places, the American flag is hung at half-mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11am.
